Assad: We’ll stand by Lebanon in case of Israeli attack

Syrian President Bashar Assad addressed the voices of war and peace in the Middle East for the first time Sunday evening. Speaking in a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berry, Assad stressed that his government and the Syrian people would stand by Lebanon “in any case of an Israeli attack which it may face.”

Official Syrian news agency SANA reported that the two discussed “the repeated Israeli threats against the region’s countries and Israeli extremism threatening to destroy the chances for peace by igniting the region with wars and taking it into the unknown.”

U.S. soldier ‘waterboarded his own daughter, 4, because she couldn’t recite alphabet’

A U.S. soldier has been accused of ‘waterboarding’ his four-year-old daughter because she couldn’t recite the alphabet.

Joshua Tabor admitted to police that he used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry.

As his daughter ’squirmed’ to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face – upwards – three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.

Tabor, 27, admitted to investigators that his daughter was terrified of water and he had deliberately chosen the punishment.

As we have been forecasting for the last two years, the second wave of mortgage defaults and foreclosures will hit the economy this year. Not only will we have failure in prime loans and option-arm loans, but we are faced with a new crop of subprime and ALT-A loans put into motion by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae and FHA. In addition, we find it of great interest that the FHA is changing the rules to purchase homes. That, of course, means less homes will be purchased.

The incidence of unemployment may be lessening, but it isn’t going away. Those of you who keep your ear to the ground know that real unemployment is 22.5% and in cities like Detroit it is somewhere near 45 to 50 percent. This is the result of free trade, globalization, offshoring and outsourcing.

As for timing, the US will not give Israel the green light to attack Iran until another carrier task for joins the two already in the Gulf (USS Enterprise and USS Stennis). The Pentagon has indicated they are prepared to send the USS Nimitz to the Gulf to arrive in April. This indicates that the most likely timing of the attack will be between April and July of this year. The transfer of the Nimitz is being contested by CENTCOM commander Admiral Fallon. He may even be replaced for making statements inferring that an attack on Iran will not occur on his watch.

The Defense Industry Is Pleased with Obama

Who says the president is failing to show leadership? In one area at least, there’s no sign of flag or falter. If anything, the administration’s only becoming more forthright. Sad to say, that area is military build-up.

The quote of the day comes from the CEO of a military contractor-funded policy group called the Lexington Institute. Loren Thompson tells Tuesday’s New York Times, “The defense industry is pleased but bemused… It’s been telling itself for years that when the Democrats got control it would be bad news for weapons programs. But the spending keeps going on.”

Take that you Nobel committee!
